With the rapidly developing awareness of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continuing to unfold, OSMC holds the well-being and health of our patients, employees and community as our uppermost priority.  Our office is continually reviewing and adjusting our policies to follow recommendations and restrictions from KDHE, Manhattan Surgical Hospital and Ascension Via Christi. Below are changes OSMC is implementing regarding COVID-19.

  • Effective immediately our office strongly recommends that patients attend their appointment by themselves.  However, if you bring a visitor with you, you will be limited to 1 visitor per patient.  If the patient is a minor then they may be accompanied by both parents. There will be a screening of every person entering the building which can be reviewed below. 
  • Effective immediately, OSMC Ortho On-Call will be closed until April 1, 2020.
  • Effective Thursday, March 19, 2020, elective surgeries for individuals of high risk, will be postponed for the next 30 days.

 

Corona-Virus Patient Screening

We continue to closely monitor the outbreak of the Corona-Virus (Covid-19).  As a healthcare facility we have an obligation to our patients, providers, staff and community.  With the CDC and KDHE recommendations changing daily, our processes and practices have to reflect those changes as well.  OSMC is vigilant and is utilizing KDHE and CDC policies and procedures for guidance with monitoring and managing this outbreak.  I have outlined below some process changes that will affect all providers and their patients effective Monday, March 16, 2020.  

We have implemented the following:

1. Screening during scheduling phone call and Registration for OSMC Patients and Visitors:

Within the past 14 days:

a. Have you been around anyone who has traveled to or from (including layovers), or have you traveled to or from (including layovers), anywhere that there is risk of exposure to COVID-19? • China • Italy • South Korea • Iran • Japan • California • New York • Washington • Florida

b. Have you had contact with anyone in the past 14 days who has been quarantined or placed on home or self-monitoring or has become ill with a fever, cough or difficulty breathing due to possible exposure to COVID-19?

c. Are you experiencing any lower respiratory symptoms that include any of the following? • Fever • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

If the patient answers Yes to any of the questions above, the patient will not receive any services and they are to be instructed to return to their vehicle, call our office to reschedule their appointment and call their primary healthcare provider.  A minimum of 14 days is required before rescheduling any appointment.    

2. Visitor policy:

a. All visitors will be screened in the same manner as the patients.  

b. Any visitor who answers yes to travel/exposure or respiratory symptoms will be asked to leave the facility to minimize transmission of Covid-19.
